The real cost of keys is not the lock. It is the day a key goes missing and you rekey a building, or the day a resident moves out with a pool key that still works. Access control replaces that with a list you edit: revoke a credential, and it stops working before the person reaches the door.
For HOAs and condo boards specifically, this changes the economics of amenity access. Pool gates, fitness rooms, mail rooms, trash enclosures and clubhouse doors all report who came in and when, and access can be scheduled, so the pool opens at dawn and closes at dusk, without anyone walking down to turn a key.
Doors, gates and the parts people forget
An access-controlled opening is a system, not a reader. It needs a locking device the door can carry, a request-to-exit path, a door position switch so the system knows when it was propped, power that is fused and monitored, and a fail-safe or fail-secure choice that matches the building's egress requirements under NFPA 101. A door on an exit path must never trap someone inside.
We scope all of it up front, including the trades boundary: what the door hardware supplier provides, what the electrician provides, and what we provide. That is the part that usually goes wrong on a bid, and it is the part we put in writing.

Questions
Access Control and Entry Systems: common questions
Can you put access control on our pool gate and clubhouse?
Yes. That is one of the most common HOA and condominium requests we take. Pool enclosures, fitness rooms, mail rooms and clubhouse doors can all run on one credential per resident, with scheduled hours and a record of every entry.
Do residents need a card, or can they use their phone?
Either. Most systems we install support cards, fobs and phone-based credentials at the same time, so you can issue whichever fits the resident without changing the hardware.
Is it safe to lock an exit door?
Only when it is done to code. Any opening on an egress path is built for free egress, so a person inside always gets out without a credential, and magnetic locks release on fire alarm and on loss of power. We design to NFPA 101 and the Virginia USBC and note the egress strategy on the proposal.
What happens if the internet goes down?
Credentials and schedules are cached at the controller, so doors keep working. You lose remote administration and live events until the connection returns.
