Video Surveillance & Security Camera Installation

Elite Connect designs and installs IP video surveillance for homes, businesses, HOAs and multi-family properties across Hampton Roads. We run the camera cable ourselves (Cat6, PoE), set the recorder and retention, aim and focus every camera on site, and hand you a labeled system you can view from your phone. What a camera system actually has to do

Most camera systems that disappoint people fail for one of three reasons: the cameras were mounted where the cable was easy instead of where the coverage was needed, the recorder holds less footage than the owner thinks, or nobody ever set the exposure for the way the site looks at 2 a.m. rather than at noon.

We start with a coverage plan. Every camera on the proposal has a stated job (read a plate at the entrance, cover the register, catch faces at the door, watch the dumpster corral ), and a lens and mounting height chosen for that job. Then we size the recorder against the retention you actually need, not the number that made the quote cheaper.

Recording, retention and remote viewing

We size storage from real numbers: camera count, resolution, frame rate, and whether the scene is busy enough to defeat smart-codec compression. A 12-camera 4K system running 30 days of continuous recording is a very different drive than the same system running motion-only. You get the math in the proposal.

Remote viewing is set up before we leave, on your phone and on any workstation you want it on, with separate logins for you and your staff so an employee who leaves doesn't take your camera access with them.

Questions

Video Surveillance and Security Camera Installation: common questions

How much does a security camera system cost in Virginia Beach?

It depends far more on cable runs than on cameras. A straightforward 4-camera residential system with a recorder typically lands in the low thousands installed; commercial systems scale with camera count, cable difficulty and retention. We give you a written, itemized proposal after a free site walk so you are comparing real numbers, not a phone estimate.

Can you add cameras to a system I already have?

Usually yes, if the existing recorder has open channels and license capacity and the cameras are ONVIF-compliant. We will tell you honestly if the existing head end is the limiting factor rather than quietly selling around it.

How long is footage kept?

Whatever you specify and we size the storage for. Fourteen to thirty days is common for residential and small commercial; thirty to ninety days is typical where an insurer, franchisor or HOA policy sets the number.

Do I need internet for the cameras to record?

No. An on-premise recorder keeps recording with the internet down. You lose remote viewing and alerts until the connection returns, but the footage is still there.

Will the cameras work at night?

Yes. Infrared or low-light color, chosen per location. We set night exposure on site, after dark, because a camera tuned only in daylight is the single most common reason footage is unusable when it matters.
