Alarm and camera packages with the price on the page

Most security companies will not quote you until someone is sitting in your kitchen. These are our three standard residential packages, what is in each one, and what each one costs. You buy the equipment outright at the install price and own it from day one, rather than having it financed inside a monthly fee you cannot see the end of.

Your choice of platform

Three panels, two apps, one price

The package price is the same whichever panel you pick. Two of them run on Alarm.com and one runs on Resideo's Total Connect 2.0. Cameras have to match the platform, so this is the one decision worth making up front.

Alarm.com

Qolsys IQ Panel 4

The strongest sensor radio of the three. PowerG reaches detached garages and outbuildings that most systems need a repeater for, and the panel has a camera in the bezel that photographs whoever disarms it.

DSC PowerG encrypted, long range
Alarm.com

2GIG Edge

Bluetooth disarm as you walk up, and facial recognition at the panel. Runs standard eSeries sensors or the E+ Series 900 MHz line where the run is long, and it takes over existing 2GIG sensors if you already have a 2GIG or GoControl system on the wall.

eSeries encrypted, or E+ Series 900 MHz long range
Total Connect 2.0

Resideo ProSeries

The upgrade path if you already have Honeywell or Resideo equipment, since existing 5800 series sensors can be carried over. Runs on Resideo's own AlarmNet network rather than Alarm.com.

PROSiX encrypted

Alarm.com

Arm and disarm, sensor history, camera clips and video analytics, smart locks, lights, thermostat and garage, geofencing and scenes. Cameras are Alarm.com and sit on the same account as the alarm.

Total Connect 2.0

Arm and disarm, sensor history, camera clips, smart locks, lights and thermostat, scenes and schedules. Cameras are Resideo and sit on the same account as the alarm.

What the price covers

In the price, and not in the price

Included

  • All equipment listed in the package, supplied and installed
  • Labor, programming, testing and the central station account setup
  • Your city or county alarm permit filed for you (the locality's fee is billed to you at cost)
  • App setup, a walkthrough, and a printed zone list for the panel
  • Three business days after signing to cancel, for residential customers
  • 12 month warranty covering both workmanship and defects in the equipment

Quoted separately

  • Running a new power circuit, which needs an electrician if there is no outlet at the panel
  • Repairing doors, frames or windows that will not close squarely enough to hold a contact
  • Long-range sensors, where the building needs them rather than the standard encrypted line
  • Anything outside above the first story that needs a boom lift rather than a ladder
Priced on the proposal, never after the job

Monitoring

What the monthly buys

Every plan is monitored by Criticom Monitoring Services (CMS), a UL listed central station, under contract to us rather than in-house, signaling over cellular with Wi-Fi as the second path. The app depends on the panel you pick: Qolsys and 2GIG run on Alarm.com, Resideo ProSeries runs on Total Connect 2.0. Monitoring runs on a term you choose, and the equipment stays yours either way because you bought it.

$39.99 / month

  • 24/7 central station monitoring, UL listed
  • Cellular signaling with Wi-Fi backup
  • Alarm.com or Total Connect 2.0 app: arm, disarm, history, notifications

Renters and apartments

Renting? It comes with you

Every device in these packages is wireless and you buy it outright, so the system is yours the way a television is yours. When the lease ends it comes off the wall and goes up at the next address. You are not leaving a financed system behind for somebody else, and you are not paying out a term you can no longer use.

Nothing is cut into the building

Contacts are adhesive or a pair of small screws, the panel sits on a stand or a single bracket, and cameras mount with two fixings. There is nothing to repair beyond a few filled holes.

The account and the history follow you

Your app login, your codes, your sensor names and your recorded clips stay on the same account. We reprogram the zone names to the new floor plan and nothing else changes.

Flat price to move it

We take it down, patch the holes, and reinstall and retest at the new address for the move-and-reinstall price in the add-ons. No new equipment to buy and no new activation.

What needs the landlord's yes

A wired video doorbell uses the existing bell transformer, and outdoor cameras put fixings in the exterior. Interior sensors and the panel almost never need permission. We can put that in writing for your property manager if it helps.

If you are in an apartment or a rental, the Essential package is usually the right starting point. Add a doorbell camera if your building allows one.

Add-ons

Commercial

Business work is designed, not packaged

Packages work for houses because houses are similar to one another. Commercial jobs are not, and a published price would be a guess. These get a site walk, a drawing and a line-item proposal.

Monitored fire alarm

Designed to NFPA 72, permitted and inspected. Priced per device count and riser, never per package.

Access control

Priced per door, because a door is a leaf, a lock, a reader, a REX device and sometimes a new power supply.

Commercial video

Hanwha cameras on a recorder sized to your retention requirement, not cloud clips. NDAA compliant on federal work.

Structured cabling

Priced per drop, certified with a Fluke DSX-5000 and handed over with the test results.

Pricing terms

About these prices

Every price on this page is a starting price for the equipment and work described, on a typical single-family property in our service area. It is published so you can budget, and it is not a quote, an estimate or an offer of contract.

Prices are subject to change without notice. Equipment costs, manufacturer pricing and monitoring rates move, and what is published here is what we are charging today. The price in your written proposal is the price we hold, and we hold it for 30 days from the date on the proposal.

What changes a package price: the number of openings, the construction of the building, the panel location and its power, the distance to outbuildings, and anything listed as quoted separately above. We establish all of that on the free site walk, before you are asked to sign anything.

Monthly monitoring rates exclude applicable taxes and any local alarm permit or false alarm fees, which are set by your city or county and are payable by the property owner. Monitoring runs for the term you choose, renews for the same length unless either side gives written notice 30 days before it ends, and renewal is at the rates current at that time.

Product names and availability change with the manufacturers. Where a model listed here has been discontinued we will substitute the current equivalent and say so on the proposal.

Questions

Questions about the packages

Which panel should I pick?

If you have nothing on the wall today, the Qolsys IQ Panel 4 on Alarm.com is what we fit most often, because PowerG sensors reach further than anything else and the panel photographs whoever disarms it. If you already have 2GIG or GoControl gear, the 2GIG Edge keeps your existing sensors. If you already have Honeywell or Resideo gear, the ProSeries panel on Total Connect 2.0 keeps yours. The package price is the same whichever you choose.

What is the difference between Alarm.com and Total Connect 2.0?

They are competing platforms that do broadly the same job: arm and disarm from your phone, sensor history, camera clips, smart locks, lights and thermostat. Alarm.com has the stronger video analytics and the wider third-party device list. Total Connect runs on Resideo's own AlarmNet network and is the natural fit if your existing equipment is Honeywell. Cameras have to match the platform, so the choice is made once, at the start.

When do I need the long-range sensors?

When the sensor is a long way from the panel or there is a lot of building between the two: a detached garage, a shed, a gate, a pool house, or a brick and plaster house where the panel sits at one end. DSC PowerG on the Qolsys panel and the 2GIG E+ Series 900 MHz line on the Edge both reach much further than standard sensors. We work out on the site walk whether you need them, and they are priced per device in the add-ons.

I rent. Can I even have a monitored system, and what happens when I move?

Yes, and it moves with you. Every sensor talks to the panel wirelessly and nothing is cut into the structure, so there is no drilling through studs and no cable in the walls to leave behind. Two things do need power: the panel plugs into an outlet, and a video doorbell needs the existing bell transformer or a plug-in adapter, which is worth clearing with the landlord first. You own the equipment outright rather than financing it inside a monthly, so there is nothing to leave behind or buy out. When the lease ends we take it down, patch the few holes, and reinstall and retest it at your new address for the move-and-reinstall price in the add-ons. Your account, codes, app history and clips all carry over.

Are these prices real, or do they change once you get here?

They are real starting prices for the equipment listed, on a normal house, and they are subject to change without notice. What moves them is the building rather than the sales call: more openings than the package covers, a panel location with no power near it, masonry that has to be drilled, or a long run out to a detached garage. We walk the property before we quote, and the written proposal is the number you pay, held for 30 days.

Can I add to a package, and what do the extras cost?

Yes, and the add-on prices are published on this page. Almost every job adds a few contacts or a camera. Anything added during the original install is charged at the add-on price listed, and anything can be added to a live system later without rebuilding it.

What monitoring term do I sign, and how do I cancel?

You pick the term: one, two or three years. It renews for the same length at the rates current at renewal unless either side gives written notice at least 30 days before the term ends. Ending it early is chargeable at 75 per cent of the payments remaining on the term, so pick the length you actually want rather than the cheapest monthly. Residential customers also get three business days after signing to cancel outright, and the notice form comes with the agreement. Read the term and the cancellation clause before you sign, here or anywhere else.

How is this different from a free or $99 system?

Equipment ownership. At $0 down the equipment is not free, it is financed inside the monthly, which is why the monthly is higher and why leaving mid-term costs so much. Here you buy the equipment outright at the install price and it is yours from day one, listed on a schedule attached to the agreement. What you sign for is the monitoring service, not the hardware.

What happens if I already have a panel?

Tell us what is on the wall and we will price the takeover instead of a rip-out. A 2GIG, Qolsys or DSC panel already on Alarm.com can usually keep its account and its sensors. Honeywell 5800 sensors carry over to a ProSeries panel. Older hardwired systems can often be kept too, with the existing contacts brought into a new panel through a wired-to-wireless translator. Takeover is listed in the add-ons.

Does the monitoring still work if the power or internet goes out?

Yes. The panel signals over cellular as its primary path, with Wi-Fi as the second, so an internet outage does not take the alarm offline. The panel has a backup battery that carries it through a power outage, and it reports the power failure to you and to the central station.

Why are Hikvision and Dahua not in any of these packages?

Both are banned under section 889 of the National Defense Authorization Act, which rules them out on federal, E-Rate and federally-grant-funded work. Rather than carry two standards we do not install them anywhere, on any job. The cameras in these packages are Alarm.com or Resideo, and our commercial camera line is Hanwha, all compliant.

Do you do this for businesses as well as houses?

Yes. Small commercial sites often fit the Whole Property package as written. Anything larger, anything with more than a handful of doors to control, or anything needing a monitored fire alarm gets a designed system rather than a package, because the code requirements and the inspection path are different.

Not sure which package fits?

We walk the property, count the openings and tell you which one it is. If none of them fit we price it line by line instead. No charge either way.
